During the ‘60s, German-based scientist Dr. Klaus Märtens invented a shoe with an air-cushioned sole and partnered with the Griggs family to manufacture them in England where it became popular with factory workers and London’s youth culture. To this day, Dr. Martens shoes remain an iconic symbol of subcultures worldwide.
